Edinburgh Fringe Festival

December 12, 2011

In August I spent a brilliant few days in Edinburgh with my mum and Joe at the Fringe Festival. I’d never been before, despite my mum having lived in Edinburgh for a number of years, so I was really excited to go. I’m sure many of you will have been and will corroborate how worth a visit it is, but for those of you who haven’t made it there yet, get it in the diary, you’ll love it!

Probably my favourite part was just wandering around the streets and seeing the street theatre. Joe absolutely loved it and was completely enraptured right from the offset. For some reason he kept getting picked out of the crowd to participate, including one where he volunteered himself for an amazing knife-throwing act. I can safely say that was the most terrifying moment of my life… I knew he was in safe hands, and he was desperate to do it, but it took every ounce of self-control in my body to stop myself running out and grabbing him back! Needless to say, he was completely fine and didn’t stop talking about it for months afterwards, and I was so proud of my gutsy and adventurous little lad. Another big favourite was Mirazozo, a luminarium by the Architects of Air, a huge, inflatable art installation full of chambers and corridors, illuminated by natural light shining through the seams of the material – totally atmospheric, peaceful and magical. On a personal level, it was just so great to spend a few days with my lovely mum – she treated Joe and me to most of this as a very generous birthday present and as always it was amazing to spend some proper time with her – we are so close and I do miss her so much, living pretty far apart. But as they say, it’s quality not quantity, and these days with her were an absolute high point of my summer. I completely love the black and white photo of her and Joe, so sweet.

I didn’t take too many pictures, and those I did were just on my old 400D and cheapo 50mm 1.8 prime, but here are some of my favourites…
